Middle East

Upon entering the courtyard of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque and again while walking through the small town of Tzfat, I was completely shaken by the Middle East. This is a region of warm and welcoming people. Religious war and tension has engulfed these communities throughout the ages, but nowhere else on Earth is life lived with such an awareness of the past. In the Middle East, history is literally written on the stones - from the ancient roads of Jerusalem, to the colossal mosques of Istanbul and the delicately carved tombs of Petra.
